Carrie Ann, Thank you so much for teaching me how to BE BOLD and do things with intention. My new little midwife brain was soaking up all the information you gave it! Thank you for encouraging us to practice smart and with compassion. You are one of a kind, I’m grateful to have met you. P.S. I will be a pro at IV’s soon… with practice.

I wish to Thank You for the opportunity to attend your BetterBirth University workshop. It was an experience beyond my wildest dreams. It was evident that great care had been taken in all aspects of our learning, from the nicely furnished apartment to each day’s learning tasks. Having had a Nursing background, I entered the program with trepidation. I was worried that there would be a lot of repetition and that it would grow my skills only here and there. What a pleasure it was to find that my skills began growing immediately. We learned important midwifery skills that hospital nurses are not taught. How wonderful to be taught the Right Way to do them and then to be able to practice those skills until we felt confident. There were certain complications that were a concern to me on how to resolve them quickly and safely. The one that concerned me the most was shoulder dystocia. It gave me much peace to have this complication addressed and practiced. I feel like my education has ‘turned a corner’ as I see that there is a way to handle this complication effectively out of the hospital. The week was every bit an advanced obstetric workshop and I can see why you would require the students attend this workshop before they begin working with you. This workshop eliminates many questions. It was amazing to see how carefully you have built your practice based on the most recent scientific advancements. You have taken advantage of the many tools available to us and incorporated them into your program. I know that there are many hours and money invested that have been devoted behind the scenes to make this all possible. You model a remarkable practice. Taking on the Midwifery profession is not an easy thing to do. You realize that you will be guardian of both mother and baby. As I watch wonderful midwives everywhere do their practice quietly and safely, I am filled with much admiration for them. I believe they are some of the bravest women there are. They have accepted responsibility to offer women an option which may provide the safest and most peaceful birth possible. The midwife also knows that she has no instant backup as do hospital physicians and nurses. The midwife must be on her best at all times to afford the best outcome. She is also willing to go against the popular current because it is the right thing to do. I applaud all of you! Thank you for taking your profession so seriously. If others knew what I know now, other midwives would send all of their students through your BetterBirth University. All physicians would greet you with respect and marvel at the complete and meticulous care you have given your clients. They would accept that the only reason you needed to bring a mother or baby to them was because you love them enough to give this family the best care possible. What a wonderful world of cooperation we could have. You are filling an important mission to advance the certification of midwifery students. You are providing a bridge that helps us cross that chasm of inner-most desires to fulfilled dreams. Thank you for making this past week such a wonderful experience.
Thank you for this amazing experience these past few weeks--you are a gifted teacher and have a talent for explaining things in an understandable way. I’m grateful for the time I was able to spend at your birth center learning from you and getting to know you. It’s obvious how much you love what you do--in every aspect--and that was wonderful to see. I hope we can work together again soon. Thank you for your dedication and for going above and beyond to help me reach my goals.
Thank you for your vision. For making things happen. For having dreams and tackling them and for sharing your life with students. BetterBirth is a fantastic place to learn. My time here has changed me!
I couldn’t leave without expressing my gratitude for all I’ve learned and experienced this week. Your workshops were excellent! I am so so glad I was able to do phlebotomy and IVs one more time with you all. My confidence definitely has grown this week!
