Working With Apprentices

Where do great midwives come from? From great learning programs, of course!

BetterBirth, LLC has developed an exceptional clinical training program for midwives. Our program serves apprentice midwives who seek to learn the art of safe, beautiful birth from our outstanding master midwives. But apprentices cannot learn from midwives alone. They need a few wonderful clients to participate as well. Would you like to contribute to the next generation of great midwives?

While we always have apprentices assist our midwives, when you choose our Birth Suites Apprentice Package the apprentice takes the driver’s seat and becomes the midwife. With this program:

  • Your prenatal, labor, delivery, and postpartum care are provided by our apprentice midwives under the close supervision of our master midwives.
  • Your case is assigned to a staff midwife who will meet with you initially, review your chart regularly, call you periodically to make sure you are well, and deal with any unresolved questions and concerns. This midwife takes responsibility for the quality and continuity of your care and makes sure you are happy.
  • Prenatal and postpartum appointments are available at both our Orem and Salt Lake offices.
  • All deliveries are planned to occur at our birthing suites in Orem. We do not offer this program for home births.

The cost for the package is $1400 (a considerable discount!), which includes:

  • Prenatal visits
  • Labor and delivery care
  • Birth at our birthing suites, 4-hr postpartum stay (there is NO facility fee in addition to the price listed above)
  • Waterbirth if desired
  • Postpartum visits
  • Initial lab work and group B strep test
  • All birth supplies (provided at the birthing suites)
  • Hearing Screening Test for the newborn

About our Apprentices

Our apprentices come from throughout the US and Canada for short (1 to 12+ week) clinical internships. They may be enrolled in one of many other midwifery education programs which provides their academic instruction. Their competency in midwifery skills is carefully assessed prior to their acceptance into our clinical program. Our supervising midwives train and test them on their skills before they are allowed to perform any procedure.
